Rant
Remember guys this is a rant. I am just gettting it off my skin that my new jeep is scratched and chipped and I have less than a thousand miles on it.
Also that I have just dished out two grand in taxes and now I have to come up with my own solution to mud.
Now combine this with I had the block to my 1955 willy's M170 machined and the machinist screwed that up and his attitude is similar to other in that the liberties he took in machining my block 'will be fine' He set my exhaust valve guides 1/2" lower in the block than they were suppose to be and undercut my valve seats by 1/16" and forgot to machine the guides to fit my valves.
I'm just tired of accepting things that I don't want to accept.

the stock saraha side steps keep alot of the mud off the doors and body.so much that i have a hard time getting the entire jeep dirty no matter how hard i play in the mud.I'm looking for rock rails now for protection and will take off my side steps- wanna trade steps for rails??
Good attitude. It's about time people took responsibility for their own screwups.
I'd tell the machinist it's his responsibility to fix the motor, or replace it.
for the Jeep...get a set of skinny tires, and a set of the Rock Rails that bolt to the sides of your Jeep, and have a welder add a small extension that you can use as a step, but will also block the mud/stones from flying up.
Or put a 10" lift in it. No stone will fly up THAT far.

I'm following this thread because more than one has said "get skinny tires". What sizes are "skinny" for the JK?" I thought I had looked, but perhaps I missed it. I'm particular looking for something narrow in the 33" range.
Better than the mud flaps are step rails. If you can without rock sliders look for X or sahara steps they work great and they bolt right up! but if you are in need of sliders then look aftermarket. The reason why Jeep doesn't offer the steps on the rubicon is because the majority of the rubicon market will destroy those steps in no time. It's not a design flaw, it's a purchasing compromise
It's not the width thats the problem; it's where the flares end. The junk flies under the flare up the side of the body.
I appreciate the Sahara offer and it would take care of the mud I'm sure. I like the protection the Rubi sliders offer to serious damage so I am going the Mopar splash guard way. I'm more irritated that the paint is damaged now and that it could have been avoided with a design consideration for mud. I am going to take pictures of the daily muck and install the guards and have another talk with the dealer and ask for a little tenderness toward repairing the damage
