Default rattle in the tailgate

Does anybody have a rattle noise coming from the tailgate when driving? I have a 2012 jku.

Check the tightness of your hinge bolts. Especially if you have a heavier spare on the back. I carried a 33" with the stock carrier, it eventually made the oe hinges wear out and make all sorts of noise. Also, you can try and wrap some electrical tape around your gate latch to firm things up.

okay yeah if the gate clunks up and down while closed, your hinges are most likely shot.

Yea mine makes all kinds of racket driving down the road when I hit bumps. The 35 doesn't help. But with only 3,000 miles I would think I would get more mileage than that.

I'll try the tape and see if that helps. A new carrier is on my to do list.

I found the noise. It is coming from the black peace on the end of the gate under the latch. Has anyone seen this and what is the best way to solve?

If I open the gate and bang on the tire with my fist I hear a rattle on the inside of the gate.

I used two thin strips of Velcro fuzzy side on the inside. You can adjust the striker side.

I went to the junkyard and picked up a rubber door molding (it doesn't matter what it comes off of) for $5.00 and installed it on the upper lip of the tailgate, not only did it eliminate the squeaking of the rear window rubber against tailgate metal, it also sealed up that area much tighter

Thought I had a tail gate rattle, but turned out to be the larger rear fold down seat of the JKU
Fold the seat down the rattle goes away. Just tried greasing where the seat hooks on the latch but didn't do the job.
Any suggestions ...
