My rear end was leaking badly enough it bothered me. When I took my jeep in for the hot oil ECU flash I pointed it out. At first they weren't going to fix it but when they brought the jeep out it was done. I'd think changing a gasket is a lot cheaper than replacing a burned up rear end......

You bought a used Jeep, and it's got some ''seeping'' of gear oil at the bottom of the housing?? Ya...common, and no big deal. Sure it's easy to fix, and yes it sounds like a lazy dealership to me, but it's not something I would consider others should lose their minds over, perhaps someone needs to find their mojo again?

x2 cant trust the dealers at all. No need bitching, fix it and keep wheeling.

We are fortunate enough to have adopted our jeeps into a more formidable and caring environment than the retarded stealership

Mine started leaking about 600kms after I bought my Jeep,

It happen to be in the dealership for my tranny popping out of gear, dealership said it was seeping, wouldn't do anything about it cause I had apparently scraped abit of the diff cover at the bottom. I got home snugged up the bolts, cleaned it up with some brake clean, good as new hasn't seeped in 2 weeks

I agree. Is there any visible drips where you park your jeep? if not then foggaboutit. I have a lot of experience with vehicles and can tell you that slight weeping in pan gaskets/diff covers/ ect is normal. as long as there isnt a drip you are fine.

I had noticed the same on my rear differ cover, but if its normal I guess I'll just clean it up, I'm still new with my Jeep but as far for draining the rear differ fluid what are the steps to changing it and how often should this be done and whats a good brand to go with?
I bought it used and I have no idea when the previous owner had changed it..

I am thinking it happens often, thus being normal to some. I noticed the seepage on my rear diff at 3000 miles. I didn't even consider this being a warrenty issue.

I am planning to change the fluid and gasket myself. One thing I have always done over the years is use gasoline to clean the joints. I know that is not consided good, since it is flamable. However, it leaves no coating or residue and I have yet to have another leak after changing. I will look into lube locker since I have never heard of that before. But I do not use sealants any more, they leak if your joint isn't clean.

Woke up this morning and noticed some seepage from my rear dif.. Just had the jeep off road yesterday and might have banged the thing on a rock taking a bad line.. Anything to be worried about or should I just tighten/clean up and watch it like Nexian had posted. It sat over night and there's no sighns of drips on the ground.

I wouldn't tighten the bolts, you could break them off in the housing, you need to drain the fluid, take the cover off, clean the RTV, apply new RTV and fill it with new fuild.

Had to do mine last Thursday with only 2500kms on the OD

If you do want to get it fixed, taking it to another dealership might be a good idea. I took mine in twice for this same thing and they fixed it without giving me any trouble at all. And I don't even consider my dealership to be a good one since they won't address my oil consumption or corroding hinges. I'm surprised they told you they wouldn't fix it. But, like everyone else is saying, it's also really easy to do yourself too.
