Recurring P0456/P0457 (GASCAP) & Regular Gas Cap replacement (FIXED)
There are other posts on this, but don't seem to have a whole lot of detail.
I have a 2012 JKUR That I have taken religious mechanical care of.
Since the beginning, I have gotten a recurring P0456 / P0457 (GASCAP Error).
Purchasing a new gascap made the Error codes go away, ... but only temporarily.
In the last 7 years, I have purchased 6 gas caps (almost annually).
This last time, however, ... a new gas cap did NOT fix the issue, even after driving for a few weeks. I did a cursory check, and noticed the purge valve hose in the front bumper was a bit loose, so I zipped tied it on, but no change.
Had my local mechanic do a smoke test, and it turns out that the Leak Detection Pump was no good, and on replacing it, solved my issue. I'm banking that this will also prevent me from having to regularly purchase gas caps as well.
Replacing this part is extremely easy (it has a turn-lock connecting it to the evap canister, one push on hose, and one electrical connector), and costs less than a new jeep gas cap.
DETECTOR. Evaporative System Integrity Module. Export.
P.S. I also noticed something else, .... I have NEVER been able to fill my tank to full. it would only ever go up to right between the second to last mark and the last mark.
After replacing the Leak Detection Pump, I was actually able to fill my tank all the way to the fill line. Not sure if it is related or just a coincidence.
