The sunrider top was available in 2008. Actually it started in 2005 (technically the 2004.5 Unlimited had it standard) and has been an option ever since. I believe in 2009 it became standard but the overwhelming majority came with it when it was an option.

My 2009 top is shredded. The two flaps in the rear came unriveted, the channels are all warped at the windows, it leaks bad and it's falling a part. Going the twill route this summer. No springs for me.

I wonder if the previous owner used to keep it outdoors. Based on your description it seems badly deteriorated by elements (UV, etc).

I got a 2010 original and new complete soft top on Craigslist. Owner got his Jeep with the dual tops and wife hated the soft top from the previous Jeep so he sold it for $450 brand new in the original package.

I still see those deals from time to time here in Seattle. Something you might want to consider.
