Default rpms?

ok this is probably a dump question but is it bad to hold my jeep at 3000 - 3500 rmp for extended periods of time?

it does not do damage to rev these things little right?

As long as your cooling system is working properly, 3500 RPM is no problem for a motor with a 5500RPM redline.

Operating a standard passenger vehicle motor (ie:not a racing motor which is equipped with balanced, strengthened components, uses extreme temperature racing oil and usually has on oil cooler fitted) on or near the redline for extended periods can cause issues, both with high engine oil temperatures causing the oil to thin out and risk compromising the oil film on moving parts operating at high speed and the chance that the bolts on the bearing caps can stretch causing you to throw a rod.

It's not a good idea to operate a motor at sustained higher RPMs until it's warmed up and the oil has reached operating temperature though.

I agree with the above post. You won't hurt it though. Its a motor and its made to be driven, so drive it. Some of the guys on here might say other wise but that could be because of some preconceived notion or perhaps had something bad happen to their Jeep. I don't race my Jeep but I do make use of all the RPMs. Just keep up on the simple stuff (oil change, plugs, wires) and you'll be fine but thats just my 2 cents.

In the next week I am towing a 6 x 12 light enclosed trailer with 4 MX bikes on a 13 hour trip to durhamtown ORV park in Georgia.

I have 35" tires 5:13 gears, it is like dragging a parachute at 65mph + It will be backshifting to 3rd if there is not a downhill or tail wind, 70mph + = 3500rpm and 9 mpg in third, needs more torque to push and pull a box thru the air.

I will follow up i two weeks how will it did not go.

Need V8 or supercharger, just cannot justify the cost at this time.

Are you running Superchips? From what I've read previously here, folks who have re-geared & are running 35's & bigger are getting significant improvements in power & torque using the higher octane towing tune. Worth looking into...

I have the following that was installed by the previous owner.
K & N filter system
Hypertech tuner, there is no towing tune just Stock / HP / HP premium fuel
Gibson dual outlet catback, It has too much drone, adding an additional resinator muffler or swapping it out wiht a dynomax single outlet.
I was told that the dual outlet mufflers are not good for torque?

Generally duals tend to open up your high-end power & torque, but lack of back-pressure at lower RPMs can affect low-end torque. But a bigger effect of free-flowing exhaust systems on the JK is apparently the PCM computer. From what I've read here from guys who have installed straight-through exhaust systems and low restriction mufflers, the computer detects the lack of back-pressure and the resulting tuning changes it makes cuts back power noticeably.

Anyone with first-hand experience of this want to chime in?
