Rubi E-Disco problems, need help!!!
Hello,
I know it has been said before on the forum, but I am going in for the 10th time for my E-Disco not working properly,
they have changed my "smart bar" 3 times I believe,
and still same problem, if I disconnect on the trail and shut off the Jeep, when I restart it, the light in the dash flashes and the thing is locked and wont unlock or stop flashing untill I unplug the connector on the smart bar and re-connect it.
But if I let the Jeep run, the thing works great!
The dealer keeps telling me I am the only one they know with problems with it, so I would like to get a few comments from those who have had problems with theirs and what Chrysler did to fix
Thanks!

well I do go off-road a lot, and since the 5th or 6th time I wheeled, it has been acting up ever since, at first it would not reconnect, they managed to fix that problem, but then it became the problem I mentionned earlier (if I turn off egnition while unconnected, it will connect when I restart the Jeep and the light will keep flashing untill I disconnect the connector)
They have never changed the harness allthough I busted the connector's plastic casing last fall so in order not to make things even worse with all the problems I had had, I immediately ordered the connector. It came with the harness but when I followed the wires, I noticed I could not change the whole harness myself since it runs between the body and frame in the rear of the Jeep. So I cut and spliced the wires up front just before the connector.
I took great care making everything as waterproof as possible with wire connectors filled with glue that shrink and glue when heated and then over that about 8 to 10 inches of glue filled shrinkwrap.
I could not take the chance it could cause a problem
Thanks for the replies, and keep em coming, they just might solve the problem...

Thanks again,
last time they had it in the tech was pissed cause I had put a lot of dielectric grease, he said someone else had touched the thing...
I said I had done that to help and he didn't like that I had touched MY JEEP...

i've had nothing but issues with mine as well, for the 4th time in a year they have replaced my swaybar module and wiring harness. Mine seems to stop working on me always due to water and moisture getting into it. as soon as they stop covering them under warranty i will just be gettin some quick disco's!
once again, thanks for the replies...
I will defenetly have the owner of the dealership read this thread tomorrow when I take my jeep in again.
I have to say I baught a rubicon for many reasons, the sway bar e-disco being one of them, and it seems to me that it should work properly!
I do not believe I should pay for an other product that is less developped(quick disconnects) when I bought something "better" and more expensive to start-offf with.
I believe the original product should at least last the length of the warranty in conditions where the vehicule is supposed to excell (trail rated)...

okay so on friday afternoon the dealer called and said that chrysler tech line toled them to change the smart bar again... for the 4th time, but the dealer will try to do more tests to see what else could be causing the problems, hopefully something else will come up, I am fed-up with them just changing the part and then the problem comes back!

so it's been a week and 2 days now that they have had my jeep, everything seems fine up to now on my setup, but they cant seem to find the problem.
the only thing they say is that when I spliced my connector wires I had different lengths (at the most 1in) and that could cause different resistance in the wires causing the problems. At first I thought it might be true, but then I remembered when I cut the wires I did space each connection so that all butt connectors were not all aligned to make a smaller diameter, but if I recall right I pretty much kept the overall length the same
this is kind-of what I did: (--------- is wires and / is connectors)

We have a up grade for the SMART BAR blues
You are able to positively disengage and engage your sway bar on demand in any gear at any speed 2wd or 4wd use at your own risk
smoother ride and more control

Banzai_II,
How did you manage to solve your e-disco problem? I have the exact same symptoms on my 2008 2dr Rubi. I am also using Superchips Flashpaq, so the config is exactly the same as yours I believe. On my recent trip I noticed that as long as the motor was running, the swaybar would remain engaged but the moment I switched the engine off, the swaybar light would just remain flashing, regardless of 4LO/HI or 2HI. Once I disconnected the e-disco plug, I could get the swaybar to disconnect again.
I have opened and serviced the smartbar before, properly re-greased and sealed it. It worked fine for a while until I hit a wet trail. I want to know whether you could indeed determine if moisture was a indeed a cause for failure and if so, where the problem lies - is it with the connector, in the loom assembly or somewhere else? Up until now I suspected the connector plug, but it seems that you have already attempted to seal it before, so I'm not sure whether this could be the cause.
