Default Rubi Lockers

I cant get the front locker to engage. Brand new 2012 Rubi. Back locks and light stays solid, front just keeps blinking. Any ideas what I am doing wrong. I am doing this sitting still in my driveway. I did try moving forward a few feet then backing up. That did not help. Going to dealer in the morning. Dont want to look stupid when they tell me I was doing it wrong. Anyone want to offer ideas can do it here or pm me your number and ill call you in a bit. Thanks for the advice.

Congrats on the new Rubicon! We picked ours up this past Saturday. I'm no expert at the Rubi lockers but I wonder if you'd have to cause a slight difference in in rotation between the left and right front wheel, like turning a little bit? It'd be nice to try this in the dirt or gravel or on the grass somewhere.

My experience is with my 2010 JK Rubicon, to engage the lockers, all i am required to do is; be in 4lo, I can engage moving, or sitting still, I am usually sitting still looking at whatever obstacle is going to require lockers. I don't imagine the 2012 is that much different.

Tried in my yard too. Moved a bit, turned the wheel a bit. nothing. did get the front to engage 1 time while sitting on the street. moved forward 20 feet, with no issue. disengaged it and tried again, back to blinking.

I would maybe try finding some dirt? I'm not sure cause I don't have lockers and never have. but I wonder if it being on dirt will help. I wonder this because I know that 4 wheel drive on pavement isn't a good idea so I would assume lockers too? idk maybe someone will chime in and prove me wrong!

It's always better to not be on concrete when engaging lockers, BUT, the Jeep doesn't know what you're on. My 09 was stubborn the first few times about locking, but was reliable after. If your rear locker engages, then you're doing it right, so now worries there. Take it in and replicate the issue for the dealer. Don't let them tell you that you have to be on dirt, the Jeep doesn't know any better when sitting there.

*disclaimer* - Don't drive the damn thing locked on dry pavement, but I'm sure you know that.

From the Jeep.com website.
  • At the top, hover over "Owners" on the menu that drops down click on "Vehicle Quick Tips"
  • Select the Wrangler
  • Then click on "Vehicle Operation" (the slim menu)
  • On the left click "Off-road Capabilities"
  • Then click on "Axle Lock (Tru-Lok) Rubicon Only"
AXLE LOCK (TRU-LOK®) RUBICON ONLY
The AXLE LOCK switch is located on the instrument panel (to the left of the steering column).
This feature will only activate when the following conditions are met:

Key in ignition, vehicle in 4L (Low) range.
Vehicle speed at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.

Press the bottom of the AXLE LOCK switch once to lock the rear axle only and a second time to lock the front axle (the rear and front axle lock indicator lights will illuminate).
To unlock the axles, press the top of the AXLE LOCK switch.
The indicator light will flash until the axles are fully locked or unlocked.

Lots of good info there.

In order for the lockers to engage, the teeth in them have to line up correctly. If they arent engaging, Cause a difference in rotation between the two front tires (Find dirt or gravel, engage the locker and drive an s pattern.) I bet they lock right up.
