Rust spots bleeding through paint
I have a white 2010 JKU and it has only been on the road for 9 months. We finally got a nice warm day here in Toronto and I decided to wash all the winter grime off. I noticed that my jeep is covered in rust spots all over the door panels. The paint is not chipped, it looks like the rust is bleeding through the paint. I am not worried about the missing paint on my hinges but the rust spots on the door panels are really getting to me. Is this something I could just buff out at home or is it worth going to the dealer ? Is there any way to prevent this ?
I noticed the exact same thing on all my doors today too. Washed it (though I wash it through the winter too) and noticed rust spots on all four doors. I'm going to be taking it in on Monday to have it looked at because that's unacceptable after having only owned the Jeep since last August.
If the spots are little specks of rust the size of a pencil point, it is what is called ''rail dust''. This condition is caused by microscopic flecks of metal dust getting on the vehicle and then moisture causing them to oxidize on the SURFACE of the paint finish. They will polish off with no harm done. This is common to ALL vehicle brands, when shipped they are all exposed to the same conditions. Most dealership prep departments used to catch this stuff. Nowadays with cost-cutting, the minimum wage people washing cars never heard of it, so you get to discover it for yourself. Wash it well, gently polish with a fine-to-medium grade of polish by hand, then wax. Many times when parked, your vehicle can be exposed to construction dust from metalwork on bridges, building contamination, etc. When the dew settles on the vehicle overnight then the oxidation begins. Soon you have the spots. So don't assume it's from Jeep....
Long ago, I bought a new white 2002 tahoe. It had the same problem. This tahoe is a Z71 which has the plastic fender flairs. The rust specs were on those too. They told me rail dust, foundry dust, etc. I also bought a 2003 pewter tahoe that doesnt have that problem.
I clay bar'd the white one which removes the specs. Then they showed up the following year. I have probably clayed it about 5 times.
The rear deck lid was the worst. The dealer repainted it under warranty but they showed up again the following year. I wondered if some of it bled through.
They tell me it is on all cars but white is the only one that will show it. I dont agree at all. I can feel the specs too.
I am not trying to scare you. Just proceed with caution.
Good luck.

this is caused ny the metal in the brake pads...it's a condition that you will generally only see right after winter(probably because we don't clean with as much detail in the winter months ). It has become routine for me to clay bar the entire Jeep first thing every spring followed by a good coat of wax. Make sure you put another good coat of wax on before winter as these rust spots will occur again.
The reason i knew it was from the brakes was due to the location of the spots and the spots were found on the plastic flares as well.
Not sure if changing to a less metallic pad will correct this problem or not!

The dealer won't "paint" the doors. I have the same issue. All they will do is scuff the paint and re shoot it not really solving the problem. Once I get my soft doors a friend mine is going to completely strip the doors and redo them entirely!
