Rusting door hindges... :(
Beside the issue of the poor paint quality and missing paint around the door hidges along with other areas, I now have just noticed that my door hindges are "bubbling up" below the paint and it appears that rust is just about to pop through!
My Jeep has around 8000 miles on it.
6 out of the 8 hindges on my Jeep all are showing the exact same problem... What the *#%@...???

I looked at a ~31k mile 4-door rubicon and most of the hinges on it had the paint missing - actually the rear flares were beat with what I would probably assume was from driving down a dirt road every day and the rocks flying up and chipping at the paint and the rear flare - if you look down the side of a jeep the rocks thrown from the tires will fly up and the only things that stick out to hit are the hinges and rear flare - I'm looking for a way to prevent that from happening on my JK - going to look at nerfs soon just to prevent the rock chips / fender flare 'sandblasting'
A question to those that are having this problem - do you have running boards or tubular steps on the jeep?

Cool, when my paint starts coming off I can sand it down and polish them.
Just posted this in another thread, but you are wrong... the upper hinge attached to the door is aluminum, the door pin is steel, as is the lower hinge attached to the body. This explains the rust I've been getting...
Yeah my pin is completely rusted, so bad it stands out from a distance against the steel blue jeep. There is even some rust where the hing componet on the body and hinge componet of the door meet. I called the dealer today and have an appointment to go in later this week and see what can be done about it. I'll let u all know what happens.
Oh, hell
. Those look just fine! The little o-ring is what you're seeing the rust come from. Nothing to sweat.
Oh, and when you have a chance you might want to wash it just this once so the oxidation doesn't stick. A little Mothers or some Turtle will do the trick!

i have hinge rust starting too and not even 6k miles on her yet, my JK has always been stored inside and still has 2+ coats of wax on it. it's in the hinges and getting worse going down throughout the hinge whenever i show up at the dealer to see what the manager heard from his boss, he's no where to be found. under the warranty it says hinges and stuff like that aren't cover, even though i have the better warranty with higher miles.. hopefully i can get this taken care of because she's not even a year old yet.
hasn't Jeep learned to throw a small washer or gasket in there to keep from grinding paint off and making hinges rust out?
Completely normal jeep hinges. All jeep hinges bleed rust.... the design with a steel hinge pin lends itself to rust bleed. All vehicles, from caddies to lamborghinis that have steel hinge pins RUST. This is NOT rust that will cause perforation. These hinges are self-cleaning, the pivot surfaces scrape their surfaces each time the door is opened. This corrosion debris migrates to the hinge joint and ''bleeds'' to the outside where you can see it. Remove the torx bolt and slide the door off the jeep. Clean each hinge half completely. Polish or touch up as necessary and coat the pin with a silicone based grease. Reassemble the door to the jeep and clean as nesessary when you open the door. Some of the grease will ''squeeze out'' as the jeep is used, however it WILL help the rust ''bleed'' a lot, but it will not stop it completely.....
The jeep ''orangepeel'' is normal also... for 35 years every jeep I've repaired has had to have the paint application adjusted to match the''peel''. Spray one like a regular car and the repair will jump out, no owner would accept it. weird but TRUE....
