Default Rusty Hinges/Muffler Newer JKs?

Hey gang! I have a 2007 JK (bought new) and continuously re-paint the muffler with high heat flat black to avoid the rust and have had my hinges repainted twice due to corrosion.

Does anyone know if the newer (2010,11) JKs have a different hinge (non aluminum) or upgraded muffler that does not rust out so quickly? Thinking about upgrading to a 2011 and was just curious..... Thanks!

I would be interested to find that out as well. I have the same issues. I'm not too worried about the muffler, I figure when it rusts out I'll get a better after market one. But I'm fighting with the dealership to paint my hinges for the second time. Don't know why they keep rusting.

I have heard the hinges rust do to water dripping on them from the rear view mirror. Also, the design of them causes them to always be wet after it rains. Anything that holds water will rust. Best way to fix it is dropping a little oil / lubrication down inside the hinjes and work it in, to protect from corrosion. Some graphite / moly based grease would work great for this on dark colored vehicles (would look dumb on light colored ones.)

Second option is to remove them and bedline them. Looks good and can be done very cheap.

known jeep problem.

Muffler rusting? thats a tough one. Water and heat and oxygen cause rust. A muffler is rust heaven. I agree to let it rust through and upgrade.

Seems its luck of the draw with the hinges. My 07 hasn't shown any flacking or peel. Went looking at used JKU's last week and every single one of them had the bubbling paint

My 2010 has this issue, but just on the passenger side. I noticed it when I picked it up. I deal with pretty exotic cars, and Vintage cars and you see this type of stuff all the time with Aluminium, and Metal. Strange, mine is just on the passenger side. When it gets really annoying, Ill have it fixed. I like the bedlining idea.

Three of my four doors have bubbling on the hinges (All except the rear driver's side door), and it took four weeks for Chrysler to finally OK the replacement of the hinges. Supposed to take it in this week for the dealership to do it.

Default Any updates on the newer JKs (2011-2012)?

Any further updates????? Does anyone know if the muffler on the new 2011/12 JKs is more durable(actual stainless steel) versus the older JKs? My 2007 started rusting BAD the first winter.

Just got my hinges repainted under warranty. You would think Chrysler would get tired of shelling out money on fixing them as opposed to finding a fix?!

My muffler is rusty but after four winters and lots of road salt it is still in good shape. It all appears to just be surface rust, not really penetrating.

How did you go about filing a complaint with Chrysler on this, I am looking to do the same?
