Sandblasted Windshield
So yah, high winds this morning and the desert do not mix very well it seems. I went through a huge gust of wind and sand and it appears it's sandblasted my windshield so now the windshield is full of microsized pits. Any ideas on how to protect the windshield from these pits growing in size???
I'd take pictures, but I don't think I can get enough detail to show up...

I've seen kits for polishing windshields. (I always check Eastwood for things like this, they have a drill powered kit), seems like it would be a lot of work. check with your insurance - might cover a new windshield if the damage is bad enough. I don't think there is any way to prevent blowing sand from damaging your Jeep.

IF you know what you're doing you can wet sand and high speed buff glass like you would a car paint job IF you know what you're doing.
I've done it before and you must be very careful and patient.

I hear ya, my wife just sent me a note and picture of our car with the side window completely shattered due to a flying rock that hit her sitting at a stop sign in El Paso. I have USAA also, you can do a one time wind damage claim. They will send someone to look at your vehicle(s) and cut you a check. I will be doing it this summer before the next military move. They only do this in El Paso and Fort Irwin, CA.
BTW, USAA is a great insurance company, but these type of incidentals are not worth filing a claim.

ok i see now. i did some checking and state of florida has a law that insurance has to cover the repair or replacement at no cost to customer.
also read that usaa will cover the windshield if repairable, if not them your comprehensive will cover minus your deductable, which you probably already knew seeing as you expected to pay $200
