Default Seasons Changing... winter tires?

Hi All,

First time Jeep owner here, loving my ride.

Quick question, I live in Montreal that has brutal amounts of snow and ice and am wondering what tires you other northerners run during the winter months.

I have a Unlimited X with stock Wranglers on it, are those of any use in the snow?

Please chime in if you have a min.

Thanks,

z

i had that for one snow storm in CT. Probably not as bad as up there, but it performed ok. Not the best tires you want to have for snow. I would say get nice set of AT tires (BFG or Procomp) and don't have to worry about changing tires every winter. I have procomp AT, and am very happy with it so far. Plus, it has 50K miles thread warranty - you can't go wrong on that

If you want the most amazing winter experience get a set Bridgestone BLIZZAKS. You will be simply amazed by thier awesome performance.
They make a front drive seem like a 4x4, and a 4x4 seem like 5 wheel drive

I'll second that - had Blizzaks on previous cars, but not on the JK... they always made the vehicle they were on handle like a champ in the snow and ice. Another good winter-only tire is Michelin Arctic Alpin... not sure if those or the Blizzaks come in large enough sizes, but I would assume so.

I'm in Montreal also. I'll probably get some Toyo Go2 Plus once the American Racing Chambers Teflon are available in 5x5 (sched. Nov/Dec). Nokian also makes some excellent winter tires, and would be my first choice, but they don't make 'em in 33". BTW, some tires are available in both LT and P. Make sure you get the LTs. :-)

Thanks JS. Where in town do you live, haven't seen your rig around. Mine is the Jeep Green X no stickers no doors and tops. Seen it?

I have the Bridgestone Duelers AT 18" Stock and they were OK last winter I picked up my JK last NOV so I pretty much drove it as my Daily for the ARCTIC months of January and FEB, and They are good in snow but ICE be careful, I think JS will be getting some really good toyo's I have heard good things about them, and they aren't that expensive.

I use the blizzaks on my dakota pickup and they are great. I got then 50% off at a Firestone store. Just call them and ask when they will have a sale.

I have the Rubi Unlimited and I was thinking about just trying the stock tires this winter. i live in Winnipeg.

I was actually debating this too because we always head up to Lake Tahoe a bunch in the winter....

One problem I have is that I have a 3" lift, and in my limited research the biggest snow tire I've been able to find is about 32" in diameter. I'm worried that this will look silly in my wheel wells. Also: I'm not looking to pay a lot, just get decent winter performance and hopefully avoid the need for chains to fit my 35x15x13.5" mud terrains.
