Default service advisor's opinion on Rubi front axle seal leaks

So the Rubi is at the dealership for front passenger side axle seal leak . My service advisor agreed to replace the seals and said most of the time this type of seal failure is caused by a bad bearing. Sure enough the mechanic confirmed bad bearing. So they are doing the work under warranty which is great but I just wanted to check with you guys if this makes sense. Are they just bs'ing? Service advisor made it sound like these axles do not have seal problems, its the bad bearings causing the seals to fail. Makes me wonder.... for you guys out there with reoccurring seal leaks.... could it be bad bearings causing the problem ?

I had a passenger axle seal leak at 12,000 miles was replaced and haven't had any problems since. I have 69,000 miles now. It could be your bearing but if its being repaired under warranty I wouldn't sweat it too much. I also have seen people with reoccurring seal problems have the axle shaft replaced and that fixed the problem.

I would have asked to see the bearings.

A bearing would have to have a LOT of play in it to cause the seal to leak.

Warranty covered it, so it doesn't matter.

it was totally drivable (daily driver, 60 km a day), but I've had ongoing issues with gas mileage and buggered tire wear on the front axle, and it turns out both sides of the axle were leaking. I was surprised too when my advisor said the joints were bad and had to replaced as well. I wonder if it was running so hot that it seized everything up.... My gas mileage has improved a fair bit, but I'm not sure if thats due to the bearing/joints fix or if it's just from the fuel induction service that was also done. As well the steering doesn't seem as light and flighty as it was.... not sure if thats just in my head or a legit improvement.

Maybe it's possible that my issue is similar. I need to read more and compare carefully since my warranty is about up.
