Question Sewing Machine every time I start the jeep

Everytime I start my jeep, except when it's only been off for 3-4 minutes it sounds like a sewing machine for about 2-3 seconds.

Anyone else have this problem?

I've only got 6K miles on it, and changed the oil at 1k and 4k.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I get this occasionally too...not sure what it is. I'm at 28,000 miles.

Apparently the solution is a FRAM - PH3614 filter.

I'm using K&N righ now and people say they are no good due to the position of the oil filter. Most will drain.

The Fram PH3614apparently won't drain out.

Going to replace as soon as possible.

See the "dry starts" thread.

Some oil filters are allowing the oil to drain out when the vehicle has sat for a while. This results in some noise on startup because you are running without oil for a few seconds.

For the record I've been using Wix filters (which are the same as Napa Gold) with no problems.

Wix filters are very highly regarded over on www.bobistheoilguy.com. Fram filters are generally considered garbage due to their cheap construction and use of cardboard end discs. Although I think certain "lines" of Fram filters are built much better than their standard filters, so you might want to do a little research.

MotorCraft FL 400S good anti-drainback valve, no start up noise. Just another option.

I tried the Wix and had the same problem. Went to Dealer and bought a longer filter that fits and for the past three oil changes, no clatter. It is just a longer version of what came on the JK. Did not have a problem until I switched away from OE filter.
