Default Shakeing in reverse

I've heard mention of a T.C. Shudder from some of you with the auto's. Mine shakes like crazy when backing up a hill. It's really bad when backing a trailer up hill. Anyone else have this issue yet. I always ask you folks before going to the dealer. As nice as they are about stuff... thier clueless.

Yup. Happens to me all the time. I really don't know exactly what causes it.

i get an out of gear-like whine that causes the shifter to vibrate and whine. Probably unrelated but just in case thought I would post.

Default Poor Reverse

It has been years since I worked with auto transmissions but Chrysler's transmissions always had poor slipping in reverse going up hill. I don't remember the exact cause or the remedy but it has to do with the low clutch pack and the bands that lock to give you reverse. I don't know how the current transmissions compare to those 700 and 900 series units?

Ya I also get this in my 08 2dr auto. Never came around to post about it though. I usually overcome it by just going up the hill faster.... I'd be nice to know if there is some problem.

well... another couple of months.. I'll find out quick. I have to back my pontoon boat up hill at my campsite every day when we're done with it. If something is going to let go... It will happen to me on vacation. Why the hell not!

I've been thinking about this since you first posted it cause it rings a bell for some reason.

These are some of the generic causes for that.

Bad, worn, or loose U-joints In the tail shaft. As to CV-Joints??
Bad, worn, or loose transmission mounts or frame mounts.
Bad, worn, or loose Motor mount/s

If the tail shaft is supposed to have a slip joint and it is sticky it can also cause that until lubed, unless excessively worn.

Do you have a lift? Did this happen after?
Is the vibration accompanied by a knocking noise?

Just my 2 cents worth.

I think it's simple wheel hop caused by the change in rotational forces to the pinion making the driveline angle change. It's very similar to what happens to a leaf sprung Jeep with a lift on it if you dont adjust the pinion angle..you get a shudder on take off as the pinion moves. Least...thats what it feels like to me.

well... I haven't lifted the truck yet. It has done this a little since is was new. I back up hill into my driveway every day. If I back up slowly, I get the shudder. So, when I back into my driveway I just do it quicker. LOL. But, when backing up a trailer I have to do that slower. I didn't really think it was a big concern untill I backed my utility trailer into my garage with a load of 40 sheets of sheet rock and 60 some odd 2x4's. It was a tight fit, so I went very slowly. The truck was shacking horribly. The same shake I have had since day one but, much much worse. With the truck empty, I get the same shudder I always have gotten. The dealership has no idea. I think my next step will be to take the Service manager for a ride in mine... and then take a brandy new one for a ride. Hey... maybe they all do it.

So... Recap:

No Lift yet. Only drive line mod is the bigger tires(305/70 R16 X-terrian on 16X8 Craggar's)

Truck has had this shudder since mile 12.

Now have 3100 miles

And I haven't done much wheeling yet

I was starting to wonder if the shudder could be related to my poor Gas mileage (Could be my heavy foot) The truck feels like it is dragging something on the highway with or without the roof rack on.

anywho... thanks for your help. The only other thing I could think to ask is for some other Auto driver to try backing up a considerable hill at very very slow speed and tell me if it shakes.

Again thank you all

Mine does this too. Don't know if it makes you feel better. Has done it since the first time I backed it in the driveway. Steep drive like you describe & yes it's much more pronounced backing a trailer in.
