Shifting issue
So this morning I am headed to work I get on the highway and the jeep isn't shifting gears (it's an automatic). It's done this once before about 5 months or so back I disconnected the battery and it worked fine after that. I haven't disconnected the battery again yet but am curious if anyone else has experienced this or knows what the actual cause behind this is..? Thanks in advance.
I've had shifting issues but mine were related to the trans overheating.
Take it in to the dealer and have them look at it, but beware that there might not be a record of this happening in the Jeep's computer. If that's the case, they'll try to charge you for the diagnosis.

I notice that many are willing to jump on my thread to troll, but no one other than I has been willing to help this person out with h/h shifting dilemma. Thanks for proving my point that this place is full of trolls!
Anyway, there's always the possibility of low fluid. Not wanting to shift is a big symptom of that.
Check it when warmed up, engine running, in park or neutral.
thanks for the advise i checked all the fluids sunday but ill give em a once over. i may have to take it in and get it checked out. guess i could always just incorporate some wing nuts on the battery post terminals for easy disconnect and rest..
*shrug* i read but i dont own an Auto so my
aint worth the copper. But as stated before Fluids can play a big role in an automatic tranny first thing is to check that
good luck

When checking the Trans fluid, in addition to the level, also make note of the color and smell. sometimes it helps to drip some of the fluid on a white piece of paper to see what the current color is. Usually red when new getting brownish over time. It should never be black. A burnt smell will be an indicator of overheating also.
Old or burnt transmission fluid can cause slipping and otherwise flaky operation of the transmission
If you have not had the Transmission Recall performed yet, have them pull the codes before they reset the computer with the changes. Apparently (thanks to spartan) they have removed the overheating codes (that did no good without a visual indicator) and replaced it with the 'HOT OIL' visual indicator. (that is no good for traceability/troubleshooting)
I would suggest that anyone that encounters the new 'HOT OIL' warning take a picture of the instrument panel making sure that the odometer is selected, and not one of the trip odometers so that mileage is indicated.
good luck

Curiouly enought, I have had the HOt Oil on two times. All off road, on Hi, while climbing long hills. 4-low seems to resolve it.
However, yesterday I was climbing a paved long hill on 2H (with curves), and the jeep stalled twice when shifting down from second to first. No hot oil message, but did smell after getting out of the jeep.
Did the key in ignition thingie three times, and got code P0218, Hot oil.
Then, after the jeep coled, THE CODE RESETED!!!!
I will order an aux tranny cooler!

Are you serious?? So, I'm not the only one whose had an overheating trans, seen the HOT OIL message, and then in the end, there's no code recorded that this happened??? Anyone else had this experience? Anyone else get the HOT OIL install, but now the overheating is no longer leaving a code??
