Default Shop Manual............

Was looking into getting the 30,000 mile service done at the dealer.....400 bucks !! Told the guy I don't need all the things they list done , like oil, air filter, tire rotation etc., still 400 bucks !! The only thing they really do is drain the fromt and rear axles, the rest is just check this and that. IMHO it's a ripoff. My question : is there a shop manual out yet ? and where do I get it ?
Thanks Clubber.....

The shop manuals are expensive and huge.

I took my JK to my dealer for the 15K service and they wanted $400 also.

I took it to my mechanic, we have been using for years, and figured I would give him the $400 to do what ever was required.

He did it for $160. He looked up the requirements and said most of it is an inspection of the Jeep for normal wear and tear to make sure it isn't damaged. They do that for all of their repairs, so all I had to pay for was an oil change and differential lube change.

You don't have to have the dealer do the service work to still be in warranty.

But you MUST document that the service has been done!

Because of the lifetime powertrain warranty, I am going to have every single repair and maintenance done by a Jeep dealer regardless of cost. This is a big change for a guy who has changed his own oil for 15 years

I agree that you have to have documentation.

My mechanic is ASE Cert and the repair bill is proof as well as his records.

The length of the warranty doesn't matter.

Ask your mechanic.

You dontj have to have a mechanic change your oil to stay within the requirements. Just document with a reciept and mileage.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to do the maintenance and examinations yourself or even by a trusted mechanic and then put the money in a savings account for the remote possibility that you need a new engine, transmission, etc.?

I was able to purchase the 2008 Jeep CD from my dealership. They charged me about $110 for it. It cover the 2008 Service Information JK-Wrangler vehilces. IF I need a printed page or two, I just print them off of the CD.

Publication # 81-370-08063CD

I do all of my own maintenace and keep records as mentioned above with mileage and dates, plus lubes, filter part numbers, etc. My dealer told me that was all I needed to do.

It took them about 10 days to get it in for me.

Good Luck!

Can anyone confirm whether or not the printed version is the same as the CD version? The CD version is not that good. It's nothing like the FSM I had for my TJ.

The printed and CD versions have just about the same information in them.
The printed version is 4 very thick volumes. I like being able to hold a book and flip through the pages. I also like having the book open at the job site.
The CD is missing a word search feature. That is the only thing it lacks.
For me, the book will see more use than the CD.

You don't have to document anything. You don't have to get it done at the dealer, either. Read the owner's manual. All it says you need to do for the lifetime warranty is bring the Jeep in every five years for a FREE inspection. That's ALL.
