Default slave cylinder and clutch replacement

has anyone had to replace a slave cylinder yet. i have helped buddies do a clutch job, but not a slave cylinder. i figured since my clutch was getting weaker i might as well do both since my slave cylinder went out this morning. any info on how much of a job the slave cylinder is, and how bad it is on price.

Dude if your slave cylinder went out just replace the master/slave unit. They are usually sold as a set. The clutch is a major task. So do the hydraulic set-up first then if you still have clutch slippage issues replace the clutch. To replace the master/slave setup is less than an hour so it should not be outrageously priced by a shop.

And I used to live in Piedmont, AL.

the dealer changed my slave because it was leaking. i thought it was going to be a 1 day job... they call me to say the trans has to come out to replace it.. which seemed odd since it bolts through the side.. i honestly dont know if the trans has to be pulled. they said they did and also replaced clutch too, but i would think it could be done with trans in.

Default trust me trans does not have to come out

I would post slave cyl R+R right from the jeep service lit but probably get us in trouble,PM me and I can show you the same service lit that your dealerships mechanic would be looking at and I have removed my slave and bled it in a dealership parking lot right after warranty clutch R+R(my clutch was full of air,the kid at the dealership swore up and down that it was non servicable, kinda changed his tune when I did it in front of him
PS for those of you who have experience Jeep service lit does state to bleed with unit installed on trans, then to unbolt slave from trans, hold in vertical position, hold rod and bleed again

Default Slave cylinder and clutch

I had to change my clutch out at 36,000 miles ,it started sliping at 33,000mi. the rear main leaked oil all over the clutch. 4 months later the slave cylinder went ,when I had to make a 45 mile emergency trip to the vets office cause my moms dog ate my christmass present dark chochlet coverd espresso beans. Slave cylinder was about $87.00 plus 30 minet instalation labor at the trans shop. I would have done it myself but it was christmass eve day,and sub zero outside so $30.00 was well worth it. The trans did not have to be removed cause the slave is on the outside,2 nuts and 1 hydraulic line . When we removed the hydraulic line the little O RING poped off and we could not find it. The only way to get that ring is to order the slave cylinder hose ,so that was anouther delay .
Other transmisions i believe have an internal slave like the 1988 F-150 with the inline 6 cyl.
