Snowboard Solutions yet???
Has anybody come up with a snowboard Rack Solution yet???
I have a soft top and no trailer hitch. Last I checked, THule and Yakima were developing tire mount racks, but there's no sign of those anymore.
I can't give up my wintersports! Anybody have a better idea than bungee cords to the spare tire?? I mean c'mon! Somebody must be developing a rack for the soft tops!

I would stay away from the spare tire type, I have tried them and noticed that they are not stable (especially your board will create a lot of wind drag which can actually turn the rack if you're driving in the wind). The best solution is to use the ski/board rack in conjunction with the bike rack if you have a hitch.

Yakima has what they call the HitchSki that attaches to their hitch mounted bike rack to carry boards or skis. It's a good option if you already have thier bike rack, but it could get a bit pricey having to buy both.
**EDIT** 08JK beat me to it.

The hitch is pretty cheap and seriously only takes a few minutes to put on. That is really your only option anyway. Or just don't take your friends with and let the board ride in the warm with you. I fit 4 boards and four people in my unlimited last season no problem. Not sure if you have the two or four door.

From what I understand you can use the Thule 963 Spare Me spare tire bike rack with a Thule 987XT ski rack attachment to carry skis and boards. What the hell do I know, I livein Ga and haven't seen snow in years, but that is what it said on my Thule 963 bike rack box.
Best of luck,

I used the old Yakima racks off of my grand cherokee and made a rack for the tire. you can fit up to 3 boards (4 if you take off one of the bindings). Here are some rough pictures. I'll put it on this weekend and get a few more pics. Pic quality is bad because it's from my phone (camera broke last week...). I used 1/2 inch piping that Home Depot cut and threaded for me (took forever!). Total cost for the piping and elbow connects was about 40ish.
we drilled holes on both ends of the rods and bolted them together for extra support.

this pic does not show the 2 rods bolted together yet, that's why they are leaning to the sides. With the bolts, they are very secure.

with the finished product, just slide it over your spare tire and use tie downs to secure it. I'll get some better pics up with it actually on this weekend.

I'd like to see how that rack works, jin kim.... I did notice the JK trailer hitch, so maybe I'll look into that.
I have a 2 door, So I don't know that two boards would fit inside so well (I usually go with at least one other person...)
I haven't really had any problems bringing boards on racks before. I usually bring a towel and a gallon of tap water to wipe them off at the slope. When I get home, I give them a good cleaning, and run some oil over the edges to prevent rusting...

the main reason i didn't like the hitch rack is because you can't open your trunk with it on. i think... here are some more pics of the rack i made (pics from cell phone)
bolted together

used pipe cover for cushioning

i used black spray paint to coat the rack so it matches the exterior color of my jeep. can fit 3 boards with bindings, or 4 with one of the bindings off.
