Default soft top choice

I have just received my top and it is a trek top. Not what I ordered, I wanted a regular soft top. I would like to hear what others think and why they like what they have. It is a summertime/fall replacement for the hardtop.

2011 unlimited 70th anniversary.

Thanks.

I liked mine on my LJ. The only odd thing is that the side windows on mine were not removable so it was hard to fold up and stick in the storage area. I am not sure if the JK one has removable windows. I know that the new Trektop NX does but yours may not be a NX.

If I could go back in time, I probably would have opted to NOT have the dual tops option from the dealership. I use my soft top just as you do, for a summer replacement to the hard top, but it's rarely up because I keep the top down unless it's really raining hard. I think that the trektop looks better, the only downside being the amount it cuts out of storage space. My soft top is only one summer old but after all the dusty roads I found myself on last year with the top folded down there's a line of dust where one of the folds were that I can't get off now. I think the fact that the trektop folds up tighter means you can leave it in the cargo area where it's not going to pick up as much dust, and when you DO put it up it looks really really good. I'm sure that the trektop has it's cons too mind you.. I just don't know what they are. When I need a replacement top, I'll likely give the trektop a go.

I have duel tops I use the soft in the summer and the hard in the winter. The trek top looks great. if you wanted the full top then you should get what you wanted. But the trek top will make you stand out.

I do have to say that the hard top does make a difference. I am in Delaware and we have some harsh winters not as bad as Chicago but they can be bad. The hard top makes a big difference with heating, visibility, and they are more air tight.

The hard top holds the heated air much better than the soft top. There are not much in the way of air drafts with the hard top.

You will be able to use the rear wiper and defroster for ice and snow.

My friend the hard top is well worth the money.

There is one major drawback to the hard top and that is storage. I have mine in a storage unit for the summer but it takes up a lot of room.

Good luck with the snow up there I know you get a lot. But damn it must be fun to take the Jeep out for a spin while everyone is stuck inside.

I've spent three winters with a hard top, two in the mountains of Colorado, and one in Alaska. I've driven it in weather as cold as -45F ambient, and trust me, it is not significantly different than any other conventional vehicle, other than a bit more squeaking when it is really cold.

With regards to soft tops, I'm holding out for the Trektop NX. I saw an early one in Moab, and I think it will be sweet when it finally comes out.
