do the latches at the b pillar that the bows lock into stick up? or is there a way to lock them down?

They stick up. They never show that in the advertisments, do they? Since I usually run without the rear window or side plastic windows in the back, I removed surrounds for the back doors. That removes those latches that stick up, but I still have the surround for the front doors so there is a channel for the top to secure to. I've had no problems running like this top up or down.

If you just don't think about it, those latches eventually fade from your vision.
