Default Soft top identification

I need to order a new top for my 2014 Unlimited. The current top I have I bought used and don't know what year it came off of. I see different part numbers for 2007-2009 and 2010 and up. What changed in the top to allow me to identify what year I have so I can order the correct part number top. Thanks.

The 07-09 had rails over top of the front two doors to keep the fabric tight. It sucks to use and over time you end up tearing the fabric between the two plastic guides. The 10+ you're able to set the top on, latch it down, and go. Having had both systems, I wouldn't buy another 07-09 style. They used the same style on my TJ and I hated taking the top down because of that design.

Another bit of info to keep in mind. If you purchase used, be sure to get the hardware that goes with that specific top. I'm told that it varies.

Rough Country support finally got back to me and said the 07-09 frames are different and wont bolt up to a 2010 and later Jeeps. Now I'm confused,

The frames will bolt up and provided the 07-09 rails have the sunrider feature then you can actually use a 10+ top with them. I've got a friend with a 15 that used 07 door surrounds for a short while, until he was able to find his original rails.

All the tops work on any year as long as you have the corresponding hardware that accompanies them. I take their comment to mean you can't take a 2010 replacement top and install it on a '07-'09...due to them thinking you have the original '07-'09 hardware.

Like Karl stated previously, does the current top have to snap/clip in to the door surrounds above the doors? If so, that is an older model. The '10+ tops just come down over those door surrounds and stay in place with the tension. Snape a picture of the top and post if you can.

In regards to RC saying "the frames are different".....yes, the hardware is a bit different, but you can indeed take all teh hardware from an '07 for example, and install it on a '15. What you could not do is take replacement top for an '10+, and install it on the '07 frame and hope it works. What you're trying to do is just purchase the replacement material and use the existing frame/hardware and door surrounds you already have right?

resharp001, yes that's exactly what I want to do. My friend actually gave me his door surrounds from his 2014 unlimited that he never used. The top on the other hand I found on Craigslist in good condition a couple of years ago for $50 which included the top with frame and windows. I've been using them together ever since without issue. Now I'm just looking to replace the fabric as it's starting to show it's age. For the pic, do I just need to fold back the sunrider part and take a pic or do you need to see the entire frame?

It's all about the door surrounds really. It sounds like you have door surrounds from a 2014, meaning they were new to his jeep and not something from an older jeep he had on his 2014. Here is a picture of one of the older tops -

The big difference is on the old ones you had to clip them in to the door surrounds like you do back around the cargo tub (bottom of the rear windows)....see the tabs by the dude's hand. If you don't have to jack with that on the top you have, then pretty safe to say you want to purchase replacement fabric for a '10+.

Ok I just checked and I don't have those tabs so I'm assuming my top is 2010 or newer like my door surrounds. I just took pics, I'll try to figure out how to load them.
