Default Soft Top Rear Side Window Problem! Please help!

my soft top side windows keep getting caught in the wind at highway speeds and the velcro comes apart and the window flaps in the wind. No matter what I do, the side windows (near the upper corner closest to the side doors) never seem flush with the rear side door, they kind of stick out a bit, enough to get caught in the wind. Am I missing something? Thanks for any info!

Make sure you are getting the L-shaped plastic piece set into it's track all the way. I had a time getting it back in the first time I took my top off.

the L shaped plastic piece you are referring to... is it along the door, where the window meets the door, or where the roof meets the top of the door? My jeep came with the hard top, so I never had a factory professional put the soft top on ... I just winged it! So maybe I'm missing something. Does the side windows have their own L shaped runner to attach to the rear side doors? Thanks!

There are a few threads on this, and it seems to be a common issue, but my guess is that the windows are not installed correctly. It's hard to describe, but the door side of the window has a hard lip or channel that goes under the plastic window frame... it actually slides behind it.
It does not just sit on it and let the door hold it in place.
Can anyone else describe this better??

jetfan28!

I know the hard lip you are referring to. I just thought that hard lip was held in by the door when it was closed. It seems a bit shoddy but it never caused a problem until this weekend. I will go home and try to see if I can tuck that lip in somewhere!

Thanks so much!

That lip is actually supposed to form a hook, kind of hard to explain without photos.
Consider the side windows a "J" where:

The long part is the window,
That flat part of the bottom of the "J" goes against the rear edge of the door (Note: there is stitching on this flat part to hold the plastic channel, it should not be visible on the outside of the top with the door closed. If the panels are on correctly, it should be inside the door recess),
the small hook part slides into the plastic door surround.

I have a couple shots of it installed, but none of halway on or off specifically, i might be able to get a few tonight though.

In the meantime, i hope this helped, and here are those pics.

I hope it helped, & good luck!

That forward lip (small part of the J) can be kind of a bear to get in there the first few times, the hotter out it is, the easier it is to do.

Dont do the velcro part until it is in, or then it is really a witch to get on.

Lightbulb Ahhh ha....that's how you do it.

Thanks Happy...
The pics and explanation helped me out big time.
I finally got moved and unpacked and just yesterday we found time to switch out the hard top with the soft top.
My side windows were doing the exact same thing as pessoa66. I couldn't figure out how to seal them.

Thanks to you I went outside and fixed the problem lickety split.

I have really missed the forum over the last month, sure is good to know all the great advise is still here.
