I check my oil at least once a week, lately i've noticed the oil going down on the stick not in big increments but nonetheless going down. Last oil change I got was at 18 500 km's, now have 20 500 km's on my JK. After the dealer did the last oil change I checked the stick as usual and it was at the top of the hexagon strip on the dip stick, today its covering a little over half of the hexagon strip. I'm always looking for spots in the driveway and there never are any, checked underneath and there doesnt appear to be any leaks. The only thing not stock on my jeep is a True Flow XDI cold air intake, I checked the spark plugs and they are fine, haven't had any funny smells or anything like that. Any one have any idea what the issue might be?

Are you checking the oil prior to a cold startup (first thing in the moring) this is the most accurate way to verify the oil level? Is your Jeep level when checking oil level? If your engine is warm or even 10-15min after you've driven it, the oil sits in the upper part of the block and can take some time for the oil to settle back in the pan.

Yeah I always check first thing before I start it up that day. I've got a bad feeling its got something to do with the CAI. The oil doesnt smell funny, just like engine oil but i've read another thread on here about a guy's JK running lean due to what he thinks is the CAI, funny thing is we both have the same CAI. He noticed because his has been running rough, I havent had that issue or any other... yet.

There are a couple of threads on excess oil usage. Mine is doing it too at 50K miles. Used about a quart and a half between 3K mile changes, but unfortunately, that is not considered abnormal.

Not considered abnormal? Is that what the stealership told you? My JK has barely 20000 Kilometres, if the engine is burning oil already there is definitley something wrong, mine is down about half a quart and its only been 2000 km's since my last change. I guess the fact that its winter and I do alot of start and stop driving (store, wal mart, grocery store etc, all within 3 km's of me) might effect the oil somehow. Thinking I might start changing my own oil a bit more often, buy a few filters from the dealership so I have them on hand and buy full synthetic Mobil 1 or something.

hey Adam3612. i have 42,000km's on my rig and just last week i was getting a chime in my cabin and the oil light would come on really briefly (less than 1/2 a second). i checked my levels (as i do regularly) and i am down a considerable amount. i don't know what it could be either. i'm going in for service soon and i'll mention it to them, why am i losing oil? weird, i have a CAI as well and never had this problem until after i installed it. but the same as you, no smells / smoke or anything. peculiar man....let me know if you figure anything out...i'll let you know what the dealer says about mine

My grandfather used to tell me "if something isn't right, it has to be left"

I had all my oil changes at the dealer! i'm at 41000 kilometers now. the other day I heard a ding that went a couple of times and later when i got home I checked my oil and it was low very low.... now my engine is making a noise like a rattle... think its my lifters. I was supposed to get my last oil change at 38500 it said on my sticker, there are no leaks, I park in my garage every night and my spot at work has no oil marks anywhere! Its goin in on Friday to the dealership....not happy!

Keep us informed. I hope it's nothing serious.

Let me know what the stealership tells you, im just keepin a close eye on my oil right now, thinking if it gets any lower im swapping the CAI out with the stock box and changing my oil. I'm sure we could get a programmer or something to maybe manipulate the ECM but i'm not getting into programmers and what not just so I can run a CAI.
