Of all the photos I've seen of Jeeps, new ones have nice shiny driveshafts, those with 1000 miles have rusty driveshafts. I just decided to take mine off and paint them with a rust stabilizing silver coating then clear coating to try and protect them before they get too rusty. I tend to replace driveline parts only when they break. If I ever break a driveshaft, I'll replace them with the U-joint shafts. But I'm not going to replace perfectly good parts until they go bad.

Could you posts some product names of the silver coting? Mine aren't orange yet but starting to head that way.

I just finished posting a few more pictures after installing:
1. Front-only mud flaps (matches the 1.5" spacers PERFECTLY)
2. A spare tire cover (ordered a 33" cover and fits as if it is made for a 32" tire)
3. Black gas cap cover
4. Tail light covers

I've also got the rear driveshaft painted, and am in the middle of painting the front as I type (waiting for first coat to dry). I started by going over the whole thing with Goo Gone after pulling off the stickers. This got off over 1/2 of the superficial surface rust. Then I used EastWood's Pre-spray which is a degreaser. Then I masked off the rubber/plastic seals and shot it with Eastwood's Silver Rust Encapsulator. Once that layer dried, I then used Detail Grey which matches the color of bare machined steel. Finally, I put on the nice coat of satin-finish Acrylic clear coat to protect the paint. This should do the trick to keep them from rusting from the inside out (under the paint), and should help decrease the surface rust as well. I know they'll rust eventually, but now it will take longer. Once I finish the front shaft, I'll shoot photos of both side by side so you can see how they turned out. This is kinda like restoring my muscle cars, but I never restored a new car until now!
Tomorrow in goes the slush floor mats, the driveshafts, Husky cargo liner, Mastercraft 3" RED roll bar handles, black door sill guards (looked closely and found I've ALREADY scuffed the sills a little. I strongly recommend getting them on ASAP when you get your JK), and a roll bar-mounted 3D Mag light if I can find a place for it. Next I plan to order RockCrusher D44 diff covers, and a 2 lb blue-anodized fire extinguisher.
No idea how I'm going to get the hard top off to yank off the soft top. Wife is 2 months pregnant, most of my local friends just aren't into this sort of thing. If I ask them for help, I'll end up paying them back by spending a beautiful summer day staining a deck or something. I may have to splurge and get one of those manual roof hoists for $200 and install it in my garage if the metal Quanson-type roof can handle the weight.

I finished painting both driveshafts and got them reinstalled today on the JK. I also installed RED MasterCraft grab handles, and a 3D mag-light holder.
