Default Squeaking from engine

Hi all,

Today I noticed a squeaking from the engine bay and would like some help figuring it out. I am thinking it might be the serpentine belt or bearing, but as this is my first Wrangler ( have owned XJs) I am not entirely sure. I have attached a link to two videos one from the top and one from underneath.

I am not able to get those videos to play off your drive. The easiest way to get videos here IMO is to upload to YouTube and then simply paste a link to the video in your post. Typcially the squeak is simply a bearing in idler or tensioner pulley. I'd release tension from the belt and slide it off, then give all your pulleys a spin with your finger.

Giving this a bump since I am out of town with no tools to loosen the pulleys nor do I have my belt tension gauge thingy.

You should only need a 3/8" ratchet or breaker bar with 3/8" end on it to loosen the belt tensioner. Just take a picture of how the belt is routed before you take it off so that you can put it on correctly again. Preform steps in the post above.

Listened to both videos and didn’t hear a squeak on my iPad. But typically a squeak is from something serpentine belt related so check the belt tensioner, power steering pump (plus fluid), a/c compressor, water pump (and coolant) and alternator. As far as field testing, turn on lights plus fogs and high beams plus fan on high and see if squeak gets louder, if so could be alternator, for power steering pump get someone to turn steering wheel and see if that changes sound.

How many miles on the Jeep?

Spray the grooved side of the belt with silicone or belt dressing or something. If it stops then it was the belt. My mach one leaks water onto the belt through the shaker hood about every other rain. If not then you have to dig deeper
