Default Starting Issue

Can someone figure out why, when I turn the key over, I get a click every once in awhile? Does it have to do with the shifter? A week after I bought it brand new in 07, I had the Locking clip replaced for the shift interlock cable. Does this tie in? It has only started this the last 2 weeks or so.

I’m having a similar issue starting my 2007 jk. You hear a hard click from the starter then nothing. This happens in both neutral and park. The only way to start the Jeep is pull two connectors on the ECM wait 5 seconds plug in and the jeeps starts up. Other than replacing the ECM what should I be looking at?

I've read about issues with the Neutral Safety Switch (NSS) for 2007-11 Wranglers. The factory states that the shifter cable is "self" adjusting. Whatever that means? What I have found with my JK if I cycle the shifter as far as it will go ie, example; Park to 1st then back to Reverse to go reverse or Park to 1st then back to Drive to drive. The JK continues to start all the time in Park. When I forget or get lazy and don't do the cycling the vehicle just clicks in Park again. But as with other comments before, my JK has always starts in Neutral if not in Park or clicks in Park then after cycling it starts in Park of Neutral position. Allthewayjumper!
