I was replacing my tailgate hinges and I found a startling amount of rust under the stock hinge. There was no paint under the hinge either. They put on the hinge then painted the Jeep. I sanded down the area, re-primered the area and put on the new hinges, eventually I'm going to remove the hinges and spray color under there. I thought you all should know before rust eats through your tailgate.

Not sure but would this be covered under a warranty..is there something unique for rust?

 

i just put on my terraflex tire carrier and my 09 had no paint under the hinges either. it had small bit of surface rust and had to take care of and paint before i put on carrier. was glad i caught it early.
