Default Steering pop

I just noticed this a few days ago. No matter the speed I drive at, whenever I turn the steering wheel to the right off center I feel a slight "pop" through the wheel AND foot pedals. If the Jeep is stationary and I turn the wheel it isn't that noticeable, but anything more than a snail's pace and it does it. There is no abnormal resistance to the wheel when it turns. I'm just afraid something is rubbing and "letting loose" when I turn. It' not a major bump or anything, just enough to know it's there. Problem also happens when I hit imperfections in the road on the highway. Any thoughts?

Check you steering stabilizer for any fluid running out around the shaft or if the housing is smashed or dented in any way. Mine did the same thing when I bumped it on a rock.

I got the Woods steering stabilizer relocation kit and a new steering stabilizer from Black Diamond. That will never happen to me again.

Default search on steering wheel clunk

There is a well known steering wheel clunk. Search this forum. Some, like me have resolved it easily by spraying Amsoil 5th wheel grease in the steering shaft boot. (Mine has stayed 'fixed' for 11 months now.) Others report needing a new steering shaft.

This simple fix is worth a try. Note... is must be 5th wheel grease... no other type. 5th wheel grease, in case you are not familiar with it, is very stiff, and actually gets stiffer the more you work it. No Jokes

What kind of steering/suspension mods do you have? I was having the same issue and first it was that SuperCrap steering stabilizer. It was hitting either the trackbar or the tie rod depending on its mood, I guess. It popped going either way. I got rid of it and put in a Fox with the Woods relocation bracket. Then it only popped when the steering wheel went right. I got under and found the stud on the stabilizer bracket to tie rod was catching on the adjustment sleeve on the link to the pitman arm. I rotated the bracket back just a little and spun the sleeve around a little (very convenient as I needed to center the steering wheel a bit anyway.) No more pop.

This is caused by your lower intermediate steering shaft. It runs from the steering gear to the upper intermediate steering shaft. It makes a popping noise because it doesn't have enough lubrication internally. Someone did a write up on greasing it. Search "clunky steering" or "steering clunk" and see if you can find it
See if this link helps you.........https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...steering+clunk
