Default Steering wheel locking when Jeep is off

So I was a bit curious today when I had my Jeep off and my steering wheel turned all the way instead of locking in place. I called the dealership asking them if this was right. I was told that the wheel will only lock in the result of a roll-over. It's a Wrangler only thing. Does anyone else think this sounds fishy? Nothing is preventing a thief from getting in and putting it in neutral and steering it away.

Trust me if someone really wants your jeep they wont be pushing it away, they will be winching it up flat deck even with your jeep stuck in 4lo and in gear it wont be hard they will drag it right on up, or they will just put dollies under the wheels.

a steering wheel lock does nothing.

There are posts on this if you search. My 08 does not lock. There were some 07 that did and some that didn't. After much debate and asking, it was guessed at that they do not lock as a feature, for towing. But, no one knew for sure, or could get a straight answer, why some did lock.

For what ever reason, some lock, and some don't. Looks like it still going pretty strong.

So... lets all strip the jeep and go wheelin'

If your ignition key is coded with a security chip, then locking steering is not needed.....
