Depends on the trail. In someinstances, the longer WB of the 4 door has helped me, other areas it has hurt. So, trail dependent.

My 2-door has stopped me contemplating getting a nagging wife and kids due to it's compact size and ruduced seating and load capacity, so for me the 2-door is far more capable (of making me free and happy).

I would not want to be on the trail with anything but my 2dr JK. The only reason they changed to also producing a four door was to sell more jeeps. Which i can't blame them for, keeps the aftermarket flourishing for all of us.

I would love to have a LWB 2dr like the 04-06 Unlimited though. Can't explain that one either

I recently sold my LWB Unlimited Rubicon which to this day imo "only" is the ultimate Jeep for extreme wheeling when properly set up.
With that said I just recently bought a 4dr Rubi and will do 90% of those same trails I did before. But now I will carry more gear for comfort camping and better access inside the Jeep.
I guess my point is they are all great jeeps! And all very capable in their own ways...

They both have their advantages but if I had to choose between the two.. I would go with the 2 door..

I would have to say this can be the only real answer.

I really don't know tho because I've never wheel'd a 4dr. But, with that said, I'd be willin' to bet my left nut tho that if a 4dr had to follow me through the kinds of woods that I've been in, jogging between trees on not much more than an ATV trail, I'm pretty sure I'd leave him in the dust....
