Default Stock rims and tires

My new Unlimited Sahara should be in shortly and I really hated the factory tires. How wide are the stock 18" rims and how big a tire will they hold without a lift?

the wheel should be 7.5'' wide.
the largest that usually fit without additions (spacers or lifts) is 275/70/18 about a 33/12/18
And Welcome to the forum.
anymore questions just ask.

You will find a far better selection of tires in the 17" size...I just put a set of 17x8 rock crawler rims on the 08 Sahara and shod it with a SMALLER snow tire...245/75R17, at 30.75" tall instead of the 31.8 of the stock tire (losing about 3% in height)...

I wanted to use the Blizzaks for a variety of reasons and that seemed to me to the best compromise. Plus I was able to use P series snow tires and not LT series at about 1/2 the cost.

In this case, I think that Jeep screwed up in the 18" stock wheel diameter on the Sahara.

Default Hetkin

I agree about the screw up on the 18" rims but does going to 17" screw up the computer and speed, mileage etc...

If you keep the overall wheel/tire OD close, no reflashing is neccessary...however, you can reset tire size with eprom burner. There are a few different brands available.

Def. Switch to 17s it won't make a huge difference if you keep a similar sized tire on it... You can always get a flash pack.

You don't say how you use your JK, and the selection for the factory sahara wheels is limited.

I have 3,000 miles on the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2.

They are extremely quiet.
With the softtop up or down, you cannot hear them even at 80.
Excellant control in the rain or dry.

I just did 300 miles this past weekend in a romp to Philly from NH at the tail end of the big blizzard. I had read these tires were much better in the snow than the bridgestone duelers our Jeeps were shod with. They certainally are. They are not as as good a lugged off road tire, but there is no whining and no blocks to wear unevenly after 20,000 miles. If you punch it in a turn on snow, they have a controled break at which point the ESP kicks in. If you drive normally/sanely, they are super.

I went up to a 265-70-18. that gives you .9" more diameter (eg a 33") along with 3/4" more width. Helps to fill the wheel wells. Barely noticable with the 6 speed).

A bit more money, but they have a wear rating 20% higher than the stock duelers so they should be a better deal long term. They are the most quiet AT tire I have even bought (have bought lots over the past 20+ years and 4 suvs).

All in all, I am very smitten with the new rubber for my driving (mostly highway, a lot of snow & hills, towing, and as a Jeep tractor to move trailerloads of mulch, soil etc around the yard).

By the way, did I tell you how quiet they are?? :<)
