Default Stock Shift Knob Removal?

I want to take the stock shift knob off to put my drake billet one on, as well as the transfer case knob. The directions that they come with do not work and I am getting pretty frustrated. Can someone help me out?

Theyre a PIA to get off. Sometime I can pull it off, other times I have to wrap the stick shift in a cloth, put a wrench around it and hit it with a mallet.

x2 I was able to work mine off while wearing latex coated gloves and twisting and pulling for all I was worth. It did finally come off, though I was ready to give up. I should have switched to the wrench/mallet route it would have been a bit more of a controlled removal. FYI the transfer case knob is just as difficult to remove as well.

IF yours is the manual.....here's what I did. 1) Straddle the console 2) Get a good strong hold on the OEM shift knob 3) Repeat to yourself "I will stop the knob before it makes contact with my chin! (very important step) 4) Deep breath in and PULLLLLL (seriously!!!).

Easy!

I used vicegrips and a rubber mallet for the 4wd knob. I have an auto, so that shifter was easy to remove.

I prefer to punch myself in the chest and knock my own wind out whenever i work on the Jeep. It amuses the wife & neighbors.

Default Good tips

Thanks for the heads up. I have been planning on doing the same mod myself and was wondering about the process. Usually I am thankful if I am not bleeding somehow from working on the Jeep. The chin / chest punch doesn't sound too enticing, though I can easily see myself doing just that.

Cheers!
