Stuck gas pedal
OK. Had a real butt pincher about 2 hours ago. Took my grandson to Pop Warner football practice. Leaving the fields you have to drive across a sandy arroyo, (no 4WD needed). As I crested the arroyo I felt that I lost contact with the gas pedal. I did!!...It jammed all by itself to the floorboard!! I hit the brakes hard as I could to stop my momentum forward. The back tires were still spinning. I quickly turned off the ignition and tried to catch my breath. My grandson's eyes were big as silver dollar pieces. I put the tranny in park and started the engine up again and was greeted with a roar as the engine revved-up again. Shut it off again. Jumped out and checked to see if the gas pedal was stuck, it wasn't. Sat there for a couple of minutes and then started it up again and it was fine. No, I wasn't wearing any type of boots or heavy shoes that might have been part of the problem, (that was my first thought I had accidentally step on the gas. But, my foot was not on the gas pedal when I started her up again and it still revved-up. My Jeep is practically stock. Driving lights and a Rockhard oilpan/trans'. skidplate. It didn't throw any codes. Now what ? I guess I can take it to the dealer even though it's fine at the moment. Am I correct in thinking that there is no linkage of any type to hang up?
You are correct; no linkage from the pedal to the engine.
Most of the time a pedal is stuck, it's because of the floor mat. Maybe it was in the way, and when you got out to look, your feet moved it back as you climbed out.

Seems like stuck pedal emergency feature did not applied.
You get brake as reverse pedal signal if this works.
Go to dealer and get new pedal.
Or as others say, your floor mat may have some problem.
