If the little yellow light shaped like a skid lights up, it is the Electronic Stability Control trying to take over.

Ditto - sounds like ESC/ESP...

You can't completely disable it while in 2WD, but if you push and hold it for 5 seconds, it should go to "mostly off" mode, where it's less restrictive than the normal "off" setting for 2WD.

On another note, if you're on the brakes while turning at high speed, you're not driving well - slow down a little before entering the turn, and add throttle as you clear the apex of the turn. Otherwise, you're asking your tires to both stick to the road AND slow down, simulateously, which makes it a lot easier to break traction with the road surface (hence ESP kicking on).

It is your first Jeep - not your first car!

Remember, it is better to drive slow and steady in a Jeep, it isn't a NASCAR vehicle. Slow down, enjoy the ride and stay safe.

I read years ago in Car and Driver where Jackie Stewart (if you don't recognize that name, believe me, he has the credentials to back up the following) says to slow down completely before entering the turn, then to accelerate as you're entering the turn, and to continue accelerating through the turn. That's how I've been driving ever since.

You're absolutely right - you're allowed to accelerate in a turn, but "high speed" cornering and Jeeps don't go together too well, so I was erring on the side of not having him/her roll the new JK... but technically, you're absolutely right. BTW, nice pics in all the threads... keep 'em coming!

to expand or clarify from my G35x/FX35 days....

do your braking before the turn begins, foot of the brake over to the gas during the first 1/2 of the turn, then back on the gas from the apex on out of the turn.
