Default Supplemental front air bags? Needed?

I ordered my JK on Dec. 26th. Still in BG status. But, my dealer has the JK I want on the lot, only without supplemental front seat airbags.

I originally ordered the airbags thinking it might provide some layer of protection for my kids in the back seat. I'm not really sure that's true. I don't know enough out the size of the airbags, etc.

Any opinions as to whether I should go get the one at the lot. Will the supplemental airbags offer any protection to the kids in back?

Front seat airbags are just that - front seat. Hence, kids in the back aren't going to be helped by front seat airbags. This seems like a no brainer to me. The only thing I can see it potentially helping with is ejection through the front wind shield from a passenger in the back seat.

Default Side Airbags

Actually, they are side seat airbags. The ones up front are standard. These are for protecting if you get hit on the side, so I thought it might help a bit for the kids in the back if we were T-boned, etc.

I could be wrong but i think those airbags open only in the front seats, on the sides. Wouldn't help anybody in the back.
Here is a pic of all 4 airbags from jeep.com http://www.jeep.com/en/wranglers/fea...-security.html

The side airbags are front seat only and are optional, not standard. Side airbags have been shown to greatly reduce the chance of injuries during a moderate side collision. Even if it won't help the kids in the back, IMHO side airbags are a good option to have to protect the driver and front passenger. The JK is a safe vehicle regardless, but the side airbag option does have value.

As per your question, there are no side air bags for the back seat. So, it will provide no extra protection to the kids in the back only you the driver and whoever sits next to you.

As stated, the side airbags are for front occupant side impact protection. This is a great option, so that then hopefully you can still help your kids in back. The rear wheel is the best impact protection for the back seat, as well as properly fitting car seats if your kids are still little. Keep them in five point harness as long as possible. Rock rails would also reduce intrusion in a side impact. I'm trying to convince my wife that a 4" lift would also make it safer for our kids, but I'm not sure she is on board.

Default Thanks for the responses.

Thanks for the comments, all. Turns out the one w/o the aribags is part of their invetory order, not on the lot.

I'll just wait for my order with the side airbags. Long, long wait. Muprhy's law anyway: if I went without the side airbags, that would be the place I'd get hit.

I guess the wait is worth it. I just got a call from my dealer who is shipping my jeep to me, and the truck driver didn't pick it up because he didn't have room. I was supposed to get it last week, now it will be next Wednesday. I think I'll be making my first payment before I get my jeep.

The side airbags should be required as included standard equipment same as seatbelts not only for the front but also rear seats.
The technology exists for a reason.
Ask someone who's been T-boned now in a coma, or a guy that kissed a tree after flying through a windshield.
Sorry...I forgot...they can't reply.
My friend and co-worker has been in a coma since December after being T-boned in his pickup.
He was enjoying his recent retirement.
