I have an 08 JK with manual locks.Today I went to lock the tailgate and it would not lock.The key goes in but it will not turn.I sprayed WD-40 in it and tried it about 1 hour later and it still won't lock.Has this ever happened to anybody else?

 

I guess these are obvious but...you've probably already done the open and close thing, sprayed and inspected the latch. Also, the mechanism is easily accessible by removing the vent on the inside of the left side of the tailgate.

 

first you need to try different key. Next if that works its the key is wore. If the other key does not work, take lock out and take to a lock smith and rekey it or clean it. Make sure key works in all doors. If you bought the jeep secound hand. There may have been an issue where they where swapped or the tail gate was damaged and replaced. I have seen alot of 300`s where this has happened. They have the remote ket and it only works column not trunk or door.

 

Sure you have the correct Jeep?

We (wife and I) went shopping one day, and when we came out, I could not for the life of me figure out why my key would not work in my Jeep tailgate . Finally took a step back, and realized mine was about 3-4 vehicles further down. Another identical black Jeep!! I have since started modding!

Haha, I have not been that bad. But I knew a girl that went to high school. She broke into a jeep she thought was hers and tried to start it. even though it was the same color and had different seat cover and interior color.

I had a pos 99 Cherokee, ALL the locks were unusable with the key. Good to see Chrysler is making strides in quality improvement.

I was once sitting IN my car, and some lady is sticking her key in my door trying to get in! Im like "Hey!"

 

Jst something to think about I was told to never spray wd40 in tumblers, use graphite instead... i don't remember the reasoning behind it, maybe someone else can tell me if i'm wrong or the reason why.
