Take a look at your hood prop...
I have opened against the windshield before.. but you take the risk of the wind slamming it closed or worse against a vital body part if you don't secure it.
First major offroad I took mine on was the Palo Duro Canyon Jeep Jam this spring. Got my Jk used last December and added the rubi rails, LOD front bumper with winch and the tires and wheels this summer. Took it out to Sandy Sanders several times before they went and took a blade to the place for the 2wd hunters pickup trucks. It was fun out there until then, several water crossings and some pretty good climbs, one section is still good, I will tell you about that one when I meet up with you.
Heard about that canyon south of Sayre but never been out there. Didn't know we had anything else legal around here besides Sandy Sanders. Went to the city for a class dealing with my job and met some guys from the club I joined. They went there last weekend from a post I saw, it has some pretty fun stuff where you get do some good climbs and give the suspension a good test. And if you like going mudding they have that also. I don't like the mud thing and there are go arounds for all the mud pits.
The club has a pretty good bunch of Jeepers in it. I met some of them at the Jeep Jam, that's how I found out about the club. They meet on the first Tuesday of the month and I don't go too often but I keep in contact on their website, as you know pretty good drive to the northeast side of the city for Tuesday evening.

I raised the hood at the car wash to rinse the red clay out from under my 2010 Rubi... when I recieved a phone call. While talking on the phone I felt a sudden gust of wind only to hear a loud crash. Turning around I saw my hood opened all the way against the top of my windshield... and of course the damage done will require a hood replacement.
But I thought to myself "Why didn't my hood prop prevent this from happening?"
Examining the hood prop revealed that it required me to force it in alignment to the hole, which I never noticed before. Meaning if I lifted the hood, the prop would come out of the hole automatically.
The prop is designed that if you lift the hood it should catch and not allow the the prop to disengage unless you lift the prop up and out of the hole.
So... next time you open your hood, I recomend you check the alignment of your hood prop, or it may cost you your hood.

I had that happen to my old TJ. Had it out in the driveway one day, turned around for a moment to talk to the neighbor, and the wind came and threw the hood against the windshield. Will not make that mistake again with the Jk.
Sorry to hear about your hard luck, I noticed before that if the hood hits the windshield its metal against metal, too bad there wasnt more thought put into those rubber stops on the hood that noone uses to rest against the windshield instead... might of saved your hood.

I don't get it. I read this post and checked my hood prop, but couldn't figure how to set the prop as described.
