Default Thermometer sticks

Does anybody have a problem with the thermometer sticking when in 4wd low? Every time I use low range the temperature does not change. Yesterday I shifted into low at 1000' and 45 degrees. I drove for several hours up to about 5000' and what I am sure were near freezing temps, but the thermometer reading stuck at 45.

It's normal. I think you have to drive over 20mph for the thermometer to reset, and you shouldn't be doing that in 4LO.

If that is true it makes the thermometer pretty useless for us hunters.

dunno. We just noticed that it happens to every one of us, it's very noticeable when you're climbing a steep mountain and can feel the temperature drop 15-20 degrees, but thermometer hasn't changed. When we shift out of 4LO on more moderate terrain and pick up speed, our thermometers change to show the true temperature.

First I heard that but it makes sense. I noticed that the thermometer hangs whenever I'm going slow - like in low range. I also noticed that the owner's manual says turning the key on will give accurate readings. Explains why I see different temperatures before I stop for a while and after restart the engine.

I guess the Jeep engineers were worried that engine heat would mess up the readings when going slow. The thermometer is located between the grill and the radiator near the bottom on the right hand side (facing toward the front of the Jeep).

This is one of those "Ah Ha!" moments! Now if someone could just figure out how to make it read continuously when going slow, even if it is off a bit.

the thermometer sticks like another post - on purpose, 20 MPH or lower.. unless the coolant temp and air intake temp are within 10 degrees of the grille thermometer sensor then it will read... this allows for the thermometer to be accurate on a cold startup.

that said.. I noticed after my Jeep recently had the latest software put into its PCM that my thermometer will move very slowly in traffic or at idle so im guessing they may have added a large buffer to it to perhaps allow it to operate at slow speeds..
