Default Throwout bearing replaced... now Slave cylinder

Good morning all...

I had my throwout bearing replaced by the dealership about a month and 2,000 miles ago. Just last night my clutch stopped working without any real warning. I noticed it was getting harder to shift in the seconds leading up to the complete failure but that's about it. I towed the jeep to the dealer I had the clutch repair work done at and called them about it this morning. They said the junior tech inspected it and it looks like the slave cylinder went out.

My question is, do you think this is something that is related to the clutch repair work done two months ago? Or is this a seperate costly issue? Cause this clutch stuff is kinda starting to get old (and expensive). If it is related to the clutch repair work I may be able to get it fixed under the 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty...

They said they wouldn't be able to get to it until monday and then they will be able to tell me more.... but I was just curious if anyone has any experience with this kind of thing so I know what I am getting into here.

Thanks for the help.

Edit:
- After doing some searching, it looks like it could just be bad timing and is not related to the repair work. At this rate I am never going to be able to afford that new spare tire carrier... er... I mean engagement ring.

-serenity now...

Insanity later.

Can you tell me what the symptoms were that led to the throwout bearing being replaced? I have a strange metallic whine when i coast in gear that disappears when I step on the clutch. it's been suggested here that the bearing needs to be replaced. I only have 3200 mi on the rig

I can't see any reason why all the repair work on your jeep isn't covered if you are within the warranty period. Shouldn't matter at all whether the new problem is related to the bearing

im having a similar issue. at about 8k miles i had the clutch assembly replaced under the TSB. now i am having a creaking sound from the clutch when i press on it and it is slowly becoming more difficult to press. this all started while i was on vacation.

my cousin is an ASE mechanic and i had him take a look at it as the dealership i normally use is no longer an authorized Jeep dealer, and he thinks its the slave cylinder as well. now i need to find a new dealership to make this warranty claim!

good luck and keep us posted.

Note: I am by no means in expert (I am closer to a newb)... but this is my experience with the problem.

That was an early symptom I had...It eventually started making a metallic grinding sound (much louder than the original grinding sound you are describing) when I pushed the clitch in, but the original grinding sound without the clutch still remained. Finally the sound evolved into a really really loud screaching sound when I pushed in the clutch. I also noticed the clutch pedal was vibrating towards the end of the line.

If you think it is the Throwout bearing, don't ignore it.. I think they have a short warranty on it since it is considered a "Throw away Item". If you only have 3200 miles on the thing it will probably still be in that window (I think it is a 12k mile warranty... not sure though). The repair job set me back by about a grand without the warranty..... which really sucks.

Keep an eye on it... based on my experience you sound like you are in the early stages and can drive it for a while still. It took mine several thousand miles to go from the noise you are hearing to the sounds made by pushing in the clutch, then it took several more thousand miles to get to the next sound (the really loud screeching).

Your jeep seems too new for that kind of work, but from what I have read on these boards you are not alone. I saw one I think that had his clutch replaced at something like 490 miles. Mine held up to 46k miles and I still thought mine was too young for that type of work.

If you do need to get the job done, and for some reason it isn't covered under warranty, make sure you shop around even with dealerships. I had one dealer quote me a hundred dollars higher JUST FOR PARTS over another dealership in the same city. Apparently Mopar charges different dealers differently .

Anyways, hoped that helps. I am sorry you are hearing that noise. it isn't fun and if it is the throwout bearing it is probably going to gradually get worse.

What 12,000 warraanty? You get a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty and lifetime drivetrain warranty. It should be done under one of these since it's not a user destroyable clutch plate.

take a look at section F:

F. When It Ends
The Basic Limited Warranty lasts for 36 months from the
date it begins or for 36,000 miles on the odometer,
whichever occurs first. But the following items are
covered only for 12 months or for 12,000 miles on the
odometer, whichever occurs first:
• brakes (rotors, pads, linings, and drums);
• wiper blades;
• clutch discs or modular clutch assembly (as equipped);
• windshield and rear window; and
• wheel alignment and wheel balancing

The dealership basically told me the clutch was in the same category as the brakes... and I think section is what they based that on.

i just had that creaking noise checked out at my dealer and they said that there is a TSB out on it and that it is actually coming from the drivers seat frame, now i call BS on that one it is clearly coming from the engine bay, so they ordered it and will call me when the parts come in
