Ticking
I get a ticking from the engine at startup for the first couple seconds. It seems to get better after an oil change but returns shortly after.
Has anyone else experienced this? Will synthetic oil help?

Just FYI, this is a common problem and several brands of filters dont have good ADV's. I believe Wyck and Fram tend to have the best results.
I heard a rumor about 7 years ago Fram had problems with some of their oil filters and it was the cause of premature engine wear and in some cases engine failure. When I was working as a mechanic at that time we had a vehicle come in and after things were sent of and tested they concluded the filter was the cause of the problem and they also said by name "Fram" has had a lot of this going on. Now I wasn't the mechanic on that job so I don't know all the details. The place I was working at, that mechanic on that job removed the oil filter and they sent it off to a place out of town somewhere to have it checked out while the mechanic spent the next few days going over the car and partially tearing down the motor inspecting everything and the place they shipped the filter to said the filter was the cause, apparently the oil was not flowing properly through the filter or enough flow through the filter. And on that car we had changed the oil and filter on it just 3 weeks prior to this incident and after that facility checked out the filter and told our shop owner at about the Fram filter issues, we stopped using them altogether. Fram sent our shop a check for the new motor. I have to wonder how many checks they cut for motors?
Most buisness's have had issues at one point or another with QC. I wouldnt continue to hold it against them as it was probably easier to write a few checks up front while quietly fixing the issue rather than do a full recall. I only stated Fram because I have been using them on all my vehicles for severall years now and have not had one bad filter yet. I have had other filters have multiple types of failures and Fram is the one that has held out for me. If your not comfortable using them there are at least a dozen other choices you can make. My bottom line for the OP was that this is a "Known" issue and the fix is usually switching to a different filter.

I understand.
I wasn't knocking you or anyone else, just sharing what I had witnessed. It is anyone's right to use what they want on their own vehicle. You made a great point and had a great explanation of the ADV in the filters and made a valid point. And you are right every company has had a QC issue at some time or another. I myself just am skeptical about using Fram from that experience and was just sharing.

This feels pretty stupid but I decided to actually check the oil. I'm sort of out of the habit since it's a new vehicle. It was low and pretty low at that. I checked all over and no signs of leaks underneath, filter clean, etc. I'm pretty sure it was topped off right at the last change and the ticking goes away after a change for a little while but has shown up again after about 500 miles on each oil change which leads me to believe the low oil might be the problem. I'm going to watch it closely from here on out.
Have the JK motors had any known issues with drinking oil?
