tire carrier
Yeah you can. It will help to purchase the daystar tire snubbers so you will have less "unsnubbed" weight. Plan in the short term to purchase some type of tire carrier/bumper combo, or tire carrier, in the near future.
The single biggest issue with running the stock carrier on aftermarket wheels and tires is controlling the "wiggle". It is this that causes twisting of the gate and the spot welds to fail. If you get extended bumps or are running stock tires that keep the tire pressed up against the isolaters you should be fine.
I have read hundreds of times that the hinges are weak and will fail but have yet to see one picture or a real person that has had this failure on a JK. This issue was very true on previous models but there was considerable improvement to the hinge and structure on a JK. (Remember several aftermarket carriers still use the stock hinge or attach to this structure.)
The next killer is dropping off a ledge and catching the tire. This is a legitimate concern that can be solved by using a rear stinger/slider.

We're going on almost two years with a 35" on the tailgate and zero issues. I agree with a couple statements above about reducing vibration or wiggle...Makes sense to me although we don't have it snubbed up.

Hmmmm, I have to take my tire off and check the tension on all the bolts for the carrier then. Maybe one worked loose and is causing the rattling. also going to add the daystar bumpers so when I put the 285 back there the vibrations are reduced.
Running my 35" Mtr on the back, no issues so far, I did make some bump extensions out of 1" Hose that I cut at the ends to keep it nice and wiggle free(would recommend this over the daystars, cheaper and more effective.)
