Default Tire Question

I have a Wrangler X and am looking to upgrade on tires. The tires I've selected are the BF Goodrich Mud Terrain. My current tire size is 255/75/r17. What is the next largest size? I'd like to go about 1-2" taller.

Your current tire is about 32 x 10wide.....go with a 285/75/17 and that will bump it up to almost 33.8 and about 11.2 wide....a 275/75/17 will be about 33.2 x 10.3 wide

I'm assuming he is still on the stock suspension... if that's the case, wouldn't both of those tires be too big for stock suspension and stock rims?

This is a real good place to start. Check the Wheels and Tires section. Note the lift and/or backspace you'll need to run various tire heights/widths.

I'll assume you're talking about the KM2 mud terrain? Try their website for all the sizing info.

http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/specs...-km2/3930.html

245/70/17 = 30.8x9.8
285/70/17 = 33x11.5
305/65/17 = 32.8x12.2

The 245 is smaller than what you have, the others are too wide to use stock.
Will you be useing wheel spacers or going to a rim with a different backspace?

- I found one site listing a 255/80/17 33.1x10 that might work, if it is a correct size...

I was actually looking at the 255/80/17 in the km2. I think this tire was purpose built to run a taller tire without needing any modifications. Sound right?

Sounds awefully skinny to me, but it will certainly get the height you're looking for without having to deal with spacers or new rims.

I actually prefer the look of a tall thin tire.

I briefly considered these, unfortunately they are E rated and I didn't want to deal with that on a light (relatively speaking) JK.

There is a great tire size calculator on the 1010 website, it will even calculate the difference your speedometer will read with different tires.

check it out 1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?action=submit
