Default tire size

I have a 07 wrangler x and have just bought some new 17in wheels for it so i need to now whats the tallest tire i can use without a lift kit. I now run 245-75-16's on stock wheels. I am going to 17in x 8.5 in wheels. I on the road most of the time but have to deal with snow so whats a good tire to look at????

You can run a skinny 33 and they work better in snow than a wide 33.

probably not a good snow tire but for size reference, I had 33x12.5 General AT2s on my 17x9 Cepeck DC-2 rims before the lift and had no clearance issues.

Im running a 285 70 17 Yohahoma Geolander A-T/S with no lift with the 8.5 x 17 black chaois wheels from Discount Tire. It has a pretty agressive tread its not loud ( no singing) and seems to do well in the rain and snow. Dont do any off roading. I was told that was about the biggest i could go without a lift or leveling kit.
