Default Tire size question

I have a 2DR X model with the stock tires. If I want to go to a slightly larger wheel and tire without modifying the suspension what would be a good size?

Thanks,

Stock tires come in many sizes depending on the options you got with your Jeep. I have 255/75/17s (32" x 10").

What is on your Jeep to begin with?

Sorry about that. I have the P225/75R16 tire wheel combo. I'm interested in getting the Series 97 Rockcrawlers with about a 30-31" tire. I'm confused about the width and backspacing thing though.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

A 30 or 31" Tire is going to be about the same size as the one you have now, just a bit wider.....

You can get a 32" on there easily (as teh rubi's and some X models come with 32's, and theres still room to spare).

A 33" will fit (if worried about with always go with a 33x10.50

I'm not sure if a 34 or 35" will fit without a lift...

honestly I'd shoot for about a 4.5" backspacing on the wheel (nice middle ground for backspacing)

Excellent! So I can use a 32 X 11.50 on a 15 X 8 or 15 X 10 wheel?

Be careful if you choose going with the 15" rim. You have to have the correct backspacing on the rim or it will not fit over the brake caliper. This has been discussed in many other threads if want to search for it.

I ultimately went with the Cragar Soft 8's (similar to the series 97) in a 16 x 8 with 265/75/R16 Goodyear MTR's. That sizing works out to a 32 x 10.5. This setup has worked well for me and with the JK it sits higher than my buddies TJ with a 2" lift and 33's. I have not experienced any rubbing issues at all. Good luck

azbronco, thanks for the heads up. I didn't even think about the backspacing. I'm still doing some research but I'm getting it narrowed down. I'm now looking at the same wheel in a 16 x 7 with a LT245/75R16 BF Goodrich tire. This should be a little better than the stock 225's without having to change the suspension.

Thanks,

I'd skip the 7" wide wheel all together.... go ahead and go for an 8" wide... I'll give you lots of tire options later on if you decide to go bigger...

I would have to agree. Not to mention the 8" wheel will fill out your fender well better and give it a little beefier look.
