I know the tongue weight for a 2 door is 300 pounds. What kind of damage am I likely to experience if I exceed this rating? Thanks!

That rating is for the factory shocks/springs and hitch itself. But that hitch if installed correctly is not going anywhere. If the tongue weight is that much u might need to look at the overall weight of what u are pulling if its to much then u could cause real damage.

I was thinking it is 100 lbs. or 200 lbs., depending on trailer tow rating.
The likelihood of damage isn't much, but the handling will suffer.

X2 unless you have some sort of weight distribution system like air bags in the rear springs. Air Rite has bags for the rear springs which will place the wt back on the front end.
