Default Top down in cold weather?

The owners manual says to not lower the top when it is below 55 degrees....

Why? Will the cold air damage the top?

I have mine down - it has been cold here the past week or so and I have not put it up. I have been driving around with it down in low 30 degree weather for over a week. Will it be OK as long as I dont try to raise it until it is above 55 (in my garage)?

in the cold the top "shrinks" a bit... hard to put back in place. i would get that garage a lot warmer then 55... shoot for 70s and up.

if it's too cold and you try to put it up you will damage the top. Heat up your garage and leave it there for a couple hours before you put it up

I was going to put the hard top on the weekend. Highs in the 50's. Would it hurt to fold it down and remove it?

Guess with the cold weather shrinkage, everyone who has given their jeep a female name needs to rethink that.

Putting it down/taking it off when it's cold is ok, it's just tight around the door channels... sore fingers.

Default Watch the plastic windows

I don't know if the new JK's will do it, but the plastic windows in my old TJ would crack if you lowered/raised it below a certain temp.

You are supposed to remove the windows before lowering the top. This helps prevent them from getting scratched.

vinyls and plastics can and will crack and split when folded at cold temperatures, I believe 45 degrees F was the YJ cutoff point.....

I love to drive with the top down, but I like to be warm more. Tops up for the next 8-9 months.
