Default Towing ?

Hi all,

Wifey and I received orders to a new duty station and we were wanting to tow her car with us, 1900 miles, in my 2013 Unlimited hard top.

I have seen two dif UHAUL trailers, one in which you put the entire car on and one with only the front two tires. Her car is a Hyundai Sonata, approximately 3457 lbs. would this be an issue with 3500 max capacity? Would the dolly type towing make it more manageable? I know military could ship it, but looking at 3-4 weeks before her car gets there. Thanks

You'll be fine towing. I've towed with a dolly and a car hauler from Washington to San Diego through the mountains. It'll add up on gas money but its fine.

Thanks for the response. Didn't want to overload myself on such a long haul.

You may need to do an end-around fake with U-Haul. They look up the towing capacity of rig towing and the weight of the towed car + the dolly, which will be over. I've had them refuse to rent when the numbers don't add up. Maybe you can say you are towing the dolly home with the Jeep but you intend to make the run with something heavier like an F250. Or maybe say the load will be a Honda Civic.

Towing back in 2009. Loaded car, back of the jeep and roof rack. From Spokane to San Diego. Towed fine.

One thing uhaul will hit you on is your top. You might need a hard top, but you'll definitely need a top on when picking up.
