Towing with a JK???

I have the base model 08 JK unlimited. I want to start towing a small pop up camper, but not really sure all I need. I just installed a rugged ridge tow hitch, but have no electric going to it for the camper brake lights. Do I just need the towing wiring harness?? If that's the case where do I hook the harness up to??

You can buy a kit that simply plugs into the tail lights, no cutting or splicing wires.

I got mine at the dealer, You just pull your driver side light and plug it in and run the wires down.

Same with mine, got my harness from eBay for about 15.00 and install took a few minutes. Really easy

Does your camper have brakes? My small popup weighs in at about 2200lbs fully loaded. Living in Colorado I wouldn't ever consider towing more than 1000lbs without trailer brakes, but that would be up to you. A 7 wire plug is more complicated than the 4 wire one, but still doable. There are some write ups on the boards, but basically I tapped into the left brake harness for lights and ran 2 wires to the front for power and brake activation.

I pull a 5 x 10 covered trailer on prob. loaded with construction tools at long distance never had a problem/have harness

I'm in the same situation.
I put a receiver hitch on my Wrangler Unlimited for infrequently towing a small utility trailer.
